Peace of Cake by Paul Hendrikx of Studio Mango

… This is the crystal clear message brought to us by PEACE of Cake.

Designed by the Dutch Paul Hendrikx, the twenty-six year old co-founder of Studio Mango, this silicone cake mold is a nice example of how simple objects that we use everyday can become the conveyors of a strongly ideological, humanitarian and cultural message.

The packaging is made of recycled cardboard so as not to forget the respect for the environment which, especially in these times, we cannot allow ourselves to simply fly over.

A dash of ingenuity, a slight retouching with some irony and a lookout for the environment… and you’ve got Klypsos!

The “plate chalice-carrier” clip to enjoy an aperitif or a standing dinner with freedom of movement and practicality, effective ingredients for a contemporary conviviality, less formal and more relaxed.

Simple but acute solution by the young and creative Jacek Ryn and Paulina Krauza, the Polish duo from the Razy2 studio.

LED Watch by Hiranao Tsuboi

I don’t like wearing watches (and am thus often late!), but I really like this one: LED Watch is simple, clear and elegant.

Designed by the Japanese Hiranao Tsuboi and prized at the Tokyo Design Week 2008, this digital gem is perfectly functional and will soon be on the production line, according to the Japanese studio. What do you think?

Maybe it’s because today is Monday, maybe it’s because it’s cold and/or that Turin is really grey in this season, but today I feel a particular need to be cuddled by color… and obviously some pleasing design!

Here is a cartful of brightly colored objects with the ability to warm and stimulate the psyche, please the eye and wake energies… Dedicated to all the people who feel a bit down in this period. Read the rest of this entry »

Reuse Design Furniture

Translated by Silvia — The creativity of the so-called “Reuse Design” lately is forever more appreciate from an earth-friendly and “NON Useless” design point of view, but more importantly even of “RE-useful”.

Here is for you a selection of interesting projects born from the creativity of sensible designers looking for ecologically sustainable solutions, selection which goes to show the fact that reusing is an effective solution and can also be aesthetic. 12 propositions which come, in the most part, from discarded objects, rethought and modelled into a new existence, for a renewed and original desirability.

A source of inspiration and encouragement for our daily recycling.

Clean Fast Gloves designed by ATYPYK

Translated by Silvia — ATYPYK will be present at Milan’s Design Week and will leave, as usual, an ironically rule-breaking and originally desecrating sign of its passage.

From this provocative studio based in Paris, we have already been able to appreciate Wooferang, Moon Carpet, the Bon Apetit! Tie, and now also the Clean Fast Race gloves, gloves made of (pink!) rubber for the new generations always in a hurry to complete domestic tasks. There are also the Kamasutra Condoms, with glow-in-the-dark packaging and the 64 erotic positions from which to take inspiration; Python tape, the sticky tape decorated in python print, to seal with style and the Break Up Handkerchief, the handkerchief to be used in case of love tragedies….

design-blog-sociale-4-april-2008-orb-bracelet-watch-by-djordje-zivanovic-b.jpg

Translated by Silvia — Modern and essential design were put into use for this wrist-watch on which the lines of time run through chromatic and technological paths, giving a determined style to the more researched feminine look.

ORB Bracelet Watch is born from the creativity of the very your Serbian designer: Djordje Zivanovic (Djo:Djo DSGN). He is an industrial design student in Turin’s IAAD, and his watch is available in 2 versions: clear black or white plastic, while the 3 linear displays give the time with the maximum precision made available by digital technology with the hour, minutes and seconds, and can take on different colors according to the software. On the side, an important button to adjust the time easily during our journeys from one time-zone to another.

To be worn, admired, consulted… Nice!

The project is on contest at the moment at the 2008 Signity Watch Design Competition. Other pictures in the cut below.

Joris van Gelder for Bang & Olufsen: the universal remote that isn’t to be touched!

Accessories, Concept, Hi-Tech, Solutions, Young Designers No Comments »

design-blog-sociale-25-march-2008-touchless-universal-remote-controller-designed-by-joris-van-gelder-for-bang-olufsen-a.jpg

Translated by Silvia — Since meeting J. (aka Alzimmer L’Hawaïen), a very good street magician from Paris, we’ve been completely fascinated by the world of magic and illusionism. So when we stumbled upon this gem of industrial design, we could do nothing else but be transported by the sensitive and elegant use of technology that bring us to never-before experienced interactivity, magical and full of emotions!

The Poised Touchless remonte control is indeed a very interesting concept, suggested by Joris van Gelder, a very young Dutch designer whose creativity is concentrated in the research of magic in our everyday interactions with our environments and the objects that surround us. He tries to find new stimuli in acts that are, in themselves, exceptional if you think of the conquests that were made to get there, but that have now become automatic and void of emotion (from switching on/off a lamp to controlling domestic devices).

In the cut below you will find more pictures, information, and a very complete video on how easy it is to use.
